Recommended Cat Supplies
Pasado’s Recommends: Excellent Cat Stuff
We have compiled the following recommendations to help you with your new (or long time!) furry family member. Bookmark this for more great info: www.fearfreehappyhomes.com.
- Cat Carrier – 2 doors with top loading option strongly preferred. Crate should be hard sides with a metal door. PetMate has a good one. If you want something fancy, check out Sleepypod.
- Litter Box – Uncovered, large, low entry. No liners or lids.
- Litter – Unscented clumping type. Cats prefer it about an inch deep. If you have litter box issues try Cat Attract litter or additive.
- Horizontal Cat Scratcher – corrugated cardboard ones work great.
Vertical Cat Scratcher – Sturdy and at least 3 feet high (should be taller than the cat’s full stretch). - Treats – Churu, Bonito Flakes, Temptations, Life Essentials and Vital Essentials are cat favorites.
- Water Bowl – Choose a wide and shallow bowl – make sure the bowl is wide enough whiskers don’t touch the sides.
- Food Bowl – Similar as water bowl, but keep food and water in separated areas. Cats do not like when food particles get in their water.
- Bed – Most important is placement of the bed. Some cats like them high up, and some like them down low. Give them options to start.
- Hiding Spot – You can purchase a cat cubby cube, but a cardboard box with a blanket inside works too!
- High Up Space – Shelves or cat trees.
- Harness – If you’d like to train your cat to walk on harness – PetSafe ‘Come with Me Kitty’ is a great one.
- Cat Scents – Catnip, Silvervine, Tartarian Honeysuckle, Feliway (diffuser and travel spray), wheatgrass.
- Interactive Toys – Wand toys, snake toys, GoCat’s ‘Da Bird’ is popular.
- Toys for Solo Play – mylar balls, scented toys, balls with bells, springs (i.e. Ethical Thin Colorful Springs).
- Food Puzzles – Trixie Activity Fun Board and Catit Senses 2.0 Food Tree are cat favorites, but find more options here.
We do NOT Recommend:
- Mechanical Litter Boxes – the noise can be scary for cats.
- Soft Crates – Many cats can escape from these.
