Annie is 100% kind. She is a Paint/Tennessee Walker cross mare with a beautiful face and liquid brown eyes. She is about 22 y/o and 15 hh.

Annie is quite special and came from a potentially abusive situation. She showed up one day in someone's pasture, seemingly abandoned by her past guardian. She was very frightened and shy of people, exhibiting signs of past abuse as she sprinted away from raised hands. She was named Annie after Little Orphan Annie. Pasado's Safe Haven intervened and provided sanctuary to Annie where she could learn to trust people and to feel safe. She is still very sensitive and can spook at sudden movements however she is not difficult to handle. It takes some time to earn Annie’s trust, but she is the kindest of creatures.

Annie does well with other horses, and is much more confident with people who are soft-spoken and calm. She is a lovely girl who wins the heart of all she meets.

Due to her age and medical conditions Annie is not a good candidate for adoption but you can contribute to her care by becoming a sponsor? Visit pasadosafehaven.org/donate-landing/sponsor-animal/ to learn more.

Babs is a funny girl who will get your attention with a cute, calculated “heehaw!” She is a brown and gray donkey and stands about 13 hands high. She adapts well to new situations and loves other donkeys, although she has got along with ponies and other animals as well. Babs loves to greet guests on tour days here at the sanctuary and is very people-friendly. Babs has a little bit of that classic donkey stubbornness and will hold her own with strong-willed animals. She does have Cushing’s disease, so she eats a low-sugar diet of soaked and rinsed Timothy hay and although she cannot be offered the usual donkey treats, she has special treats made specifically for donkeys with Cushing's. Babs also has some hoof issues and prefers to spend her days on pea gravel and/or pasture. Babs is about 27 - 30 years old and will charm her way right into your heart. If you want a sweet girl with a smart personality, then Babs is for you!

Summer is a 12-year old, 16.2hh, Thoroughbred mare looking for a home with a calm equine companion(s) as well as a horse experienced human family. She was raced as a filly but later fell into neglectful circumstances. When Pasado’s Safe Haven rescued Summer she was severely emaciated, but she has made a complete recovery and is a beautiful mare. While she has some physical challenges would make riding difficult for her, she is smart, active and still loves to have a “job”. Summer has been a wonderful therapy horse as part of an Equine Facilitated Learning program (this is an unmounted program). She is people-oriented and has a kind, calming energy.

Summer will need an owner who is experienced in caring for horses and able to manage her special needs. In 2013 she was diagnosed with EPM (Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis), which can cause neurologic symptoms. She improved with treatment but has not cleared the protozoa and relapses when off her medication. She has been mostly symptom free for some time but she should stay on medication long term to prevent a relapse.

Summer’s front legs have poor conformation and so her right front knee has slowly broken down and become more bowed over time. This has caused arthritis in her knee as well as difficulty locking her knee to sleep standing up. She wears a supportive knee brace at night to help slow the progression of the condition and aid in her ability to sleep while standing up. She also wears protective boots over her fetlocks to prevent sores from falling to her knees at times when she sleeps. Her activity level needs to be minimized because of this condition (she is not a riding horse) and she should remain on supportive joint supplements but turn out is essential for her emotional well-being.

She will need one or more mellow pasture buddies where she has a place to be separated for feeding time at night. She has been pastured with horses much older than her and was very kind and respectful to them. She enjoys attention and would love to have her own person to bond with over ground work, liberty training, trick training or just snuggle time.

Lola is a Liver Chestnut Paso Fino mare. She is registered and has papers. She’s 18, but certainly doesn’t act like it. She likes attention and is always easy to catch. She can be fussy about picking up her hind feed but has gotten a lot better.

Lola is rather fine-boned and small at 14 hands, but she has a big personality!

Lola was ridden extensively as a trail and mountain horse but has not been ridden in many years due to her arthritic changes, extensive riding may not be in her best interest. She can be a sassy girl with a lot of spunk and should have a confident handler as she will take advantage of a timid beginner. Lola is not overly dominant with other horses and would make a good companion horse.

Magic has the personality of a puppy, eager to please and willing to follow you to the ends of the earth. He would be perfect for a family with children of any age. Magic would shine as a family pet, companion horse or as an unmounted therapy horse. Can you open your family to this sweet boy?

Magic is 28-year old, 15hh, Quarter Horse gelding. He is very handsome with a gorgeous black coat, blaze and socks. Magic is not suitable for riding due to ringbone in both front feet. He does need some basic maintenance to keep him comfortable, glue-on shoes and monthly injections of a joint supplement (in the muscle) however he does not act like an old horse. He has been a total gentleman with all horses and ponies he has been turned out with.

All who work with Magic find him delightful and he is a true favorite among volunteers and interns.
