Pasado's Story
Pasado Newsletter

No single animal we rescued has received more inquiries. The beagle, above, was found during the first week of our rescue. She couldn't stand and could barely raise her head. PasadoRescuers immediately infused her with life-saving fluids.

The first week we were on-the-ground in New Orleans, all rescue groups were told to bring all animals to Lamar Dickson. We dutifully complied and this little girl was delivered into their hands.

And that's where we lost her.

Despite efforts to locate her - find where she was taken, did her owner pick her up? Was she sent to a shelter? No records exist on her. We had our Pasado tracking number assigned to her when we left her at Lamar Dickson, but it was of no use.

We hope she is at peace, wherever she is. And we know we will meet again one day.

After armed guards turned rescuers, including Pasado's, away from Lamar Dickson one night, after a long, arduous day of rescue, we never returned with the animals we saved. We know a lot of good work was done at Lamar Dickson, but we decided the animals were best cared for at our triage barn in Raceland, LA.

The Story of "Little One"

Do you remember seeing this photo on our website as we documented PasadoRescuer's efforts? He was found huddled in a closet - he had been there at least two weeks when we found him. We simply cannot fathom the fear he felt - locked in the dark, while the horror of Hurricane Katrina entered his house. No food or water.

And this is "Lucky" today. It was Larry, above, who first opened that closet door to find him - when his guardian never claimed him, Larry couldn't wait to call him his own.

Larry, a phenomenal Pasado volunteer (and humane investigator for us) has adopted numerous senior dogs from A.A.R.F.F. at Pasados - Lucky has fit right in and we hear, they all share Larry's bed!

"I want to tell you that Pasado are heroes of mine. During those first couple weeks after Katrina I kept waiting for the (a big, national animal organization - name deleted) to tell me to come on down. Somehow, I found Pasado's website, and on there it told me what I wanted to hear..."Get your (expletive deleted) down here now!!!"No questions asked, no forms to fill in. No phone calls to wait for. Someone was enough of a leader to see that this was a time of special circumstance and there was no time to screw around.

And so that is what I did, got a plane ticket, and some power bars, and was on my way, alone, into what I had no idea. By the time I got to Lamar Dixon, Pasado had recently moved their base to the farm. I will never be the same again, both good and bad.

I met MANY people at Lamar who were there only because they saw the request on Pasado. So, THANK YOU!
