Beautiful Brandy:  From Death Row to Pasado's Dog Towne "mother"!
by Will C, Dog Program Manager

Meet Brandy. Mellow and smooth, this eleven year old shepherd/ husky serves as Dog Town’s “mother”. Using her years of wisdom, she acts as a mentor to some of the younger dogs, and fills the role of the enforcer. Brandy sees it as one of her duties to keep the peace and break up any minor disturbances that sometimes occur between her occasionally unruly cohorts. At seventy-five pounds, this wise girl is not one to be intimidated, and often will physically step into the middle of a fray to restore harmony.

This charming black and yellow darling arrived at a local animal shelter as a stray, with a large grapefruit sized tumor hanging from her rear leg. Impairing her ability to walk normally, it was easily apparent that Brandy was likely dumped by her former owners due to her medical issue. A senior dog that is this well-mannered and beautiful doesn’t simply go astray.

Brandy’s engaging amber eyes told me she was missing someone… looking for someone to reclaim her. Forlorn and lonely, she peered out of her shabby kennel each day to see visitors come and go, some with other dogs, who would embark on a new life with compassionate owners. The days dragged on, and weeks began to pass by. Open kennels became filled, sometimes with three or even four dogs. The clock began to tick for Brandy, and there she sat, still waiting patiently for someone to come.

A call for rescue was sounded. Luck and fortune would at last shine upon Brandy on a sunny St. Patrick’s Day. With the cumbersome tumor only a memory, she confidently scaled the doggy ramp and settled in for the journey northward. With eyes shining and tail wagging, she again sat patiently, this time by my side for the duration of the trip.

Now Brandy is looking to begin the next chapter in her life. She greets volunteers and visitors with a hearty bark, welcoming them to Dog Town. She realizes that there is always hope, and someone will come for her one day, someone who will see her as the one who will make their home complete. Brandy knows all she needs is one chance to impress. Her mellow and gentle personality makes her a natural with other dogs and cats, and she has a tenderness about her that would make her a fine match with family members of all ages. She’s ready to meet anyone who can match the love she has to give in her heart. With one look into those soulful eyes, you’ll know Brandy is the one.
