UNCOMMON KNOWN FACTS ABOUT CATS

Did you know that a year is not just a year in a cat’s life?

The first year of a cat’s life equals the first 15 years of a human life. After its second year, a cat is 25 in human years. After that, each year of a cat’s life, equal to about seven human years.

Beautiful Mama

A cat has 32 muscles in each ear, can rotate their ears 180 degrees, and has at least five times keener hearing then that of a human adult.

Not all white cats are deaf, white cats with blue eyes are more likely to be deaf than the white cats with eyes of any other color.

Our domestic cats spend about 70 percent of the day sleeping and 15 percent of the day grooming.

Cats have an organ in the roof of their mouths called a vomeronasal, or Jacobson’s organ that enables them to literally taste a smell by holding their mouth slightly ajar.

Cats will not eat what they cannot smell, so a cat with a stuffed up nose from nasal allergy or an upper respiratory infection may refuse to eat. Offering the cat a very strong-smelling food such as fish may help. In addition, food directly out of the refrigerator may not appeal to a cat because chilling takes away most of the foods order.

Little orphan Annie needs a forever home!

Most cats have five toes on the front paws and four on the rear. Some cats have extra toes on their front feet. This inherited characteristic is called polydactyl. It is thought to have originated in Boston, with a cat off a boat from England. The cat with the most toes known had 32, eight on each paw.

Superstition dictates that if you dream about a white cat, good luck will follow.
